Legendary singer Asha Bhosle, the recipient of Dadasaheb Phalke Award and Padma Vibhushan, has passed away aged 92. She died Sunday afternoon due to multiple organ failure, family sources said. Bhosle had been admitted to Mumbai's Breach Candy hospital owing to chest infection and extreme exhaustion. Her last rites will be performed at 4 pm on Monday.
Bhosle was one of the long-standing voices of Indian cinema as well as independent music in the country. The younger sibling of India's nightingale Lata Mangeshkar built a career over seven decades rendering approximately 13,000 songs. The long list of her timeless tracks includes Piya Tu Ab Toh Aaja, Abhi Na Jao Chhod Kar, Chura Liya Hai Tumne Jo Dil Ko, Hare Rama Hare Krishna, Rang De, and Radha Kaise Na Jale. One of her last Bollywood songs was for Taapsee Pannu-Bhumi Pednekar starrer Saand Ki Aankh (2019) She recorded the song Aasmaa for composer Vishal Mishra.
Bhosle is survived by three children from her first marriage: Hemant Bhosle, Varsha Bhosle (deceased), and Anand Bhosle.
