Tabu is one of the finest actresses in Bollywood, and there are no two opinions about that. In a recent interview, Tabu spoke candidly about ageing and the pressure women face in cinema. She also revealed why she never believed in giving fake excuses while rejecting films. She also rejected the terminology of staying relevant and shared that her journey is simply a reflection of who she is.
In a conversation with Harper's Bazaar, she shared how women are harshly judged for ageing. She added, "People are more worried about your age than you are yourself. They want to show you the mirror, as though you don't have one at home. The person answering that question hasn't aged overnight. We experience it every single day. It's not like one day someone wakes up at 20 and the next day they turn 45."
The actor also admitted that she was often advised not to be brutally honest while rejecting films. "You should not give a real reason for not doing a film. Give the excuse of dates and walk away. I didn't understand that. If I don't like the script, I don't like it. And I said so."
Sharing her secret to staying relevant, the Bhooth Bangla actress dismissed the terminology, stating, "I didn't even know about all of this. We have started using all this terminology, and now we're becoming conscious of it. I don't have any plan that requires me to be relevant. I have no interest in being relevant. Who needs relevance?"
Reflecting on her journey, she stated, "My journey is not an act of rebellion. It was simply a reflection of who I am. The roles I chose, the decisions I made - they came from some similar place throughout my life. Some part of me has been completely unchanged."
On the work front, Tabu is starring in Nagarjuna Akkineni's 100th film, tentatively titled King100. This reunites them after 28 years. They were last seen together in the 1998 Telugu film Aavida Maa Aavide. She was last seen in Priyadarshan's Bhooth Bangla, which also starred Akshay Kumar and Wamiqa Gabbi in lead roles.
