Your daily caffeine fix doesn't require a swish café with air conditioning and plush furniture. India's coffee culture has grown ten-fold, and has managed to hit the streets too. From scooters to trucks, the city's sidewalks are turning into exciting spots for a freshly brewed cuppa. Here's a look at how Mumbai's mobile baristas are redefining the coffee game.

The Coffee Rider

A former café barista, Elu Ehlam decided to carve her own path. High rents didn't allow Ehlam to start with her own café, so she simply balanced one onto a scooter. Operating along Carter Road's Khau Galli, Ehlam sources her coffee from Mysore and brews with nothing more than a manual espresso maker, a kettle, and a frother. She serves up beverages that easily rival any high-end boutique café. Think: Strawberry Matcha, Iced Latte, Cold Coffee Boba, and more.

Belsta Coffee

Suraj, a trained barista with over three years of experience, has a similar story. He has turned his scooter into a haven for coffee enthusiasts. Belsta is proof that you don't need a sprawling storefront to deliver a masterclass in brewing. While Suraj is secretive about his coffee sources, he has managed to keep his menu prices low. And, every item is priced at a digit ending in seven. Expect Espresso, Flat White, Iced Mocha, Hot Chocolate, Hot Matcha, and similar finds.

Lokhandwala's Back Road has a popular haunt, Kaffa Kingdom. They have expertly converted an old car into a cosy, mobile coffee station that feels like a well-kept neighbourhood secret. With a professional-grade espresso machine fitted right into the vehicle, they serve a small, no-nonsense menu of organic coffee that keeps the local crowd coming back night after night. You will find Cappuccino, Americano, Hot Chocolate, and their respective iced versions here.

This crowd favourite is where corporate dreams meet the open road. Founded by Mahira Saif (left), this truck brings a sophisticated, almost Italian-inspired flair to the street-side coffee scene. Known for its experimental spirit, head here to try elevated coffee options like a Caramel Macchiato, Spanish Latte, Tiramisu Cold Foam Latte, Tonic Black, as well as other refreshing drinks.
