The Mahayuti alliance is confident of winning all 17 seats in the upcoming Maharashtra Legislative Council elections, deputy CM Eknath Shinde said on Monday.
Shinde was speaking after the Mahayuti candidate Ravindra Phatak filed his nomination at the Thane District Collector's office on Monday. Before filing his papers, he and alliance leaders visited Anand Ashram at Tembhi Naka and paid tribute to late Shiv Sena chief Balasaheb Thackeray and late leader Anand Dighe.
The nomination event was attended by several senior leaders, including Union Minister Kapil Patil, MP Dr Shrikant Shinde, MP Naresh Mhaske, MLA Kumar Ailani, MLA Madhavi Naik, and leaders from Shiv Sena, BJP, NCP (Ajit Pawar faction), and RPI, along with a large number of party workers.
The presence of leaders from all Mahayuti constituents was seen as a show of unity and strength ahead of the elections, an official statement said.
Eknath Shinde said that Ravindra Phatak is expected to win with a huge margin, adding that the Mahayuti enjoys a strong majority and dominance in the concerned constituencies.
He said the alliance is confident of a decisive victory in Thane-Palghar and across Maharashtra.
Shinde further stated that Mahayuti candidates are likely to win all 17 Legislative Council seats in the state.
He added that while every party has the democratic right to contest elections, the current political situation strongly favours Mahayuti candidates.
Responding to questions on possible rebellion within the alliance in some constituencies, Shinde said discussions are underway among senior leaders.
He noted that the deadline for withdrawal of nominations is still open and expressed confidence that those who have filed nominations independently will eventually withdraw.
Commenting on recent political developments, Eknath Shinde said that the state government is working in line with the ideology of party founder Balasaheb Thackeray and is focused on public welfare.
He added that the local body election results have shown public support for the Shiv Sena and its ideology, and expressed confidence that the alliance's winning streak will continue in future elections.
