Residents of South Mumbai's Girgaon area have expressed growing anger over repeated power outages that have disrupted daily life for the past several weeks.
The latest disruption occurred on Monday when several parts of Girgaon experienced a six-hour power disruption from 1.15 am to 7.15 am, adding to mounting public frustration over the recurring issue.
Locals said frequent electricity failures have caused inconvenience to households, businesses, students and senior citizens, raising concerns about the reliability of the power supply network in the area.
Amid rising dissatisfaction, members of local residents' group Aamhi Girgaonkar confronted BEST officials late on Sunday night and again on Monday morning, demanding an explanation for the repeated outages.
The group questioned why Girgaon appeared to be facing more electricity disruptions than other parts of South Mumbai.
Gaurav Sagwekar, a representative of Aamhi Girgaonkar, urged residents to unite and seek accountability from BEST officials and elected representatives over the recurring power failures.
In an effort to address residents' concerns, Shiv Sena leader and former corporator Dilip Naik, along with party leaders Sunil Narsale and Kavita Malhar, met BEST Committee Chairperson Trishna Vishwasrao on Monday.
Senior officials from the electricity department also attended the meeting, where the ongoing power supply issues in Girgaon were discussed.
The delegation highlighted the hardships faced by residents due to repeated interruptions and demanded urgent measures to restore normal electricity supply.
During the meeting, electricity department officials reportedly explained the technical reasons behind the recurring disruptions and outlined the challenges being faced in maintaining uninterrupted power supply.
However, Shiv Sena leaders insisted on immediate corrective action and sought a clear timeline for resolving the issue permanently.
Former corporator Dilip Naik warned that public patience was wearing thin and cautioned that protests could follow if the situation does not improve quickly.
He said residents had already visited the BEST office at Pathakwadi twice in the past six days to lodge complaints regarding the outages.
"If there is no immediate improvement in the power supply situation in Girgaon, Shiv Sena will launch a rasta roko agitation," Naik said.
Officials assured the delegation that electricity supply would be restored immediately in some affected areas and that efforts were underway to normalise supply across the remaining localities by Monday night.
BEST Committee Chairperson Trishna Vishwasrao also directed concerned officials to ensure that normal power supply is restored at the earliest and that residents receive immediate relief.
