IMD issues orange alert for Dhule, Nashik, Gondia and other parts of Maharashtra; predicts thunderstorms and rains

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued an orange alert for several districts in Maharashtra, warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall and strong gusty winds.

The districts under the orange alert include Dhule, Nandurbar, Nashik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Chandrapur and Gondia.

According to the alert, thunderstorms with lightning, light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds reaching speeds of 50 to 60 kmph are very likely to occur at isolated places.

Yellow alert issued for Nagpur, Amravati and Wardha

In a nowcast warning issued on Monday afternoon, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) Nagpur, issued a yellow warning for parts of eastern Maharashtra, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds.

According to the nowcast warning issued at 1 pm on June 1, the alert will remain valid for the next three hours.

The IMD said that thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph are very likely to occur at isolated places in Nagpur, Amravati and Wardha districts.

Residents have been advised to remain cautious, avoid open areas during thunderstorms, and take necessary precautions against lightning strikes and strong winds.

The weather department continues to monitor the situation and has urged citizens to follow official advisories and updates.

Upper air cyclonic circulation over Vidarbha

The IMD has said that an upper air cyclonic circulation over Vidarbha and adjoining north Telangana has shifted and now lies over east Vidarbha adjoining Chhattisgarh, extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level.

The weather system is being supported by a trough extending from this cyclonic circulation over east Vidarbha and adjoining Chhattisgarh up to south Coastal Andhra Pradesh, passing across Telangana at around 0.9 km above mean sea level.

According to the IMD, these combined systems are likely to influence weather conditions over the region, increasing the possibility of cloud formation, thunderstorms and isolated rainfall activity in parts of Vidarbha and nearby areas.

Officials said the situation is being closely monitored, and further updates will be issued as the system evolves.

Alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Pune

The weather department also issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Pune warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds over the next few hours.

A weather bulletin stated that isolated areas across the three districts are likely to experience change in weather conditions, with wind speeds expected to reach 30 to 40 kmph.

According to the forecast, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are expected at isolated places across Mumbai and neighbouring districts.

"Thunderstorm with accompanied with lightning, light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) at isolated place very likely," the alert stated.

A similar alert was issued for some parts of Maharashtra including Raigad, Ratnagiri, Jalgaon, Ahilyanagar, Satara, Sangli, Solapur, Parbhani, Beed, Nanded, Nagpur, Bhandara, Gondia, Wardha, Amravati, Gadchiroli and Hingoli districts.
