A new four-lane Road Over Bridge (ROB) at Railway Crossing-41 on the Narangi Bypass Road between Virar and Vaitarna has been inaugurated, marking a major step towards improving road and rail connectivity in Maharashtra.
The project was inaugurated on Friday by Ganesh Naik, the Guardian Minister of Palghar district.
The bridge has been developed by Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation under the leadership of Managing Director Rajesh Kumar Jaiswal.
Officials said the project is an important part of the Maharashtra government's plan to create a 'Rail Fatak Free' state by replacing railway level crossings with road over bridges and underpasses.
The ROB aims to reduce traffic congestion and improve safety for both motorists and railway passengers.
The newly opened ROB has:
- A total length of 782 metres
- Four traffic lanes with dual carriageways
- A total project cost of Rs 102 crore
The project has been funded jointly by the Railway Ministry and the Maharashtra government under a 50:50 cost-sharing arrangement.
The officials stated that the bridge will help ensure smoother movement of traffic on the busy route and minimise delays caused by closed railway gates.
The project is also expected to improve regional connectivity in Palghar district and surrounding areas.
Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation, also known as MahaRail, is a joint venture between the Government of Maharashtra and the Railway Ministry.
The organisation is currently working on several infrastructure projects across the state, including Road Over Bridges, Road Under Bridges, subways and flyovers aimed at improving transport efficiency and eliminating level crossings.
