A major water pipeline burst in Mumbai's Andheri West on Thursday led to heavy water leakage and traffic disruption along the busy Link Road near the SAB TV Junction. The incident resulted in a large volume of water gushing onto the road, affecting vehicular movement and causing significant water wastage.
The pipeline burst occurred in Ward 60, a busy commercial and residential area, prompting civic authorities to register a complaint and initiate action.
According to reports, the pipeline burst occurred near the SAB TV Junction on Link Road in Andheri West.
Videos of the incident, which quickly circulated on social media, showed a powerful stream of water shooting several feet into the air before cascading onto the road below.
The footage also showed vehicles moving cautiously through the waterlogged stretch as the continuous flow of water created hazardous driving conditions.
The incident led to concerns over traffic congestion as well as the large-scale loss of treated water.
The issue was brought to the attention of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) by local citizen group Andheri LOCA through a post on X.
The group urged civic authorities to take immediate action to stop the leakage and prevent further wastage of water.
"Water pipeline burst Andheri West, Link Road, SAB TV Junction, Ward 60. Please attend on top priority. Massive water wastage," the post read while tagging the BMC and concerned officials.
The post attracted attention online as residents called for an immediate response from civic authorities.
Responding to the complaint, the BMC's K-West Ward confirmed that the matter had been officially registered through its grievance redressal system.
"Your complaint has been registered on the MARG (Management And Redressal of Grievance) system of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. Your MARG complaint ID is KW_202600051030," the ward office stated in its response on X.
The civic body acknowledged receipt of the complaint but did not immediately provide a timeline for repair work or restoration of the damaged pipeline.
Officials are expected to assess the extent of the damage before undertaking repair work to restore normal water supply and prevent further leakage.
