After mid-day highlighted how various Central and Western Railway platforms weren't adequately sheltered, railway authorities swung into action, and many roof gaps have been fixed at most of the stations mentioned by this newspaper in a report earlier this month.
However, the problem persists at stations such as Kurla and Dadar, where work is still ongoing or there are problems regarding safety dimensions. The placing of a roof over missing sections at Dombivli railway station, where work has been on for an additional foot overbridge, has also been completed and the extension of the roof on platform 5 at Thane station has been partially completed.

While Ghatkopar station has now got most of its roof in place as work on the station upgrade continues, works at stations such as Santacruz and Kandivli are at an advanced stage, and roofs have been placed over the platforms.

Officials said that work on strengthening the station platform cover is a continuous process, and they are taken off during upgrades like the installation of new passenger amenities such as escalators or lifts and the construction of new foot overbridges or such structures. While the work is on, a temporary makeshift structure is typically put in place.
