Mumbai continued to experience hot and dry weather on Friday as the maximum temperature touched 36 degrees Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The city recorded no rainfall till evening, with relative humidity at 38 per cent at 5.30 pm.
As per the latest IMD forecast, Mumbai is likely to witness mainly dry conditions on Saturday, May 30, and Sunday, May 31. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 36-39 degrees Celsius while the minimum will be around 24-28 degrees Celsius. However, by Saturday afternoon or evening, the weather is likely to take a turn and Mumbai is likely to witness partly cloudy skies.
Light rain or thundershowers are expected to begin from Sunday, May 31, and continue in the following days.

Neighbouring Thane and Palghar districts are also expected to remain dry on Friday and Saturday before light to moderate rain and thundershowers set in from Sunday. Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty winds is forecast at isolated places from Monday in these areas.
In the Konkan region, including Ratnagiri and Raigad, light to moderate rain is likely from Sunday with stronger thunderstorm activity and gusty winds (up to 40-50 kmph) expected on Monday and Tuesday, June 2.
While Mumbai and Konkan will see a gradual increase in rainfall activity, several parts of Maharashtra, especially Vidarbha, are witnessing intense heat wave conditions. Bramhapuri recorded the highest maximum temperature of 45.7 degrees Celsius on Thursday. Heat wave is likely in isolated pockets of Vidarbha with possibility of thunderstorm activity.
People are advised to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during peak hours. Stay hydrated and wear light cotton clothes. During thunderstorms, avoid taking shelter under tall trees and unplug electrical appliances. Farmers in the region should complete harvesting of matured crops and keep produce in safe places.
