The Thane Traffic Police have issued a special traffic notification for Bhiwandi city for Bakri Eid 2026 celebrations scheduled for May 28, 2026 (depending on the moon sighting).

According to the notification issued by traffic department of Thane Police, temporary traffic restrictions and diversions will be implemented to ensure smooth vehicular movement and public safety during Bakri Eid prayers and related gatherings.

Heavy vehicles to face entry restrictions

Police said that several heavy and bulky vehicles entering Bhiwandi city from Mumbai, Thane and Nashik routes will face temporary entry restrictions on the day of the Bakri Eid festival.

The restrictions were being imposed as large numbers of people are expected to gather at mosques and dedicated prayer spots for Bakri Eid prayers.

Officials stated that the measures are aimed at preventing traffic congestion and maintaining law and order in crowded areas.

Alternative routes announced

The traffic department has also announced alternative routes for vehicles affected by the restrictions.

Heavy vehicles travelling towards Bhiwandi from Mumbai and Thane side will be diverted through alternate roads including Nashik Road and bypass routes.

The traffic restrictions will also apply to certain ST, TMT and private buses entering busy junctions and market areas in the city during peak hours.

Restrictions to remain in force for limited period

According to the notification, the traffic arrangements will remain effective on 27 May 2026, depending on moon sighting and Bakri Eid celebrations.

Police clarified that emergency vehicles, including ambulances, fire brigade vehicles and police vehicles, will be exempted from the restrictions.

Citizens advised to cooperate

The Thane Traffic Police have appealed to citizens and motorists to cooperate with authorities and follow diversion instructions to avoid inconvenience.

Commuters have been advised to plan their travel in advance and use alternative routes wherever possible during the restriction period.

Mumbai Police set up helpline numbers

Meanwhile, Mumbai Police has issued a public advisory ahead of Bakri Eid 2026.

The advisory has been released to help traders, transporters, buyers and others involved in the legal transportation and sale of animals during the festival period.

Police officials said that people facing any difficulties while transporting animals through legal channels or at authorised animal sale locations designated by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) can contact the Mumbai Police main control room.

Assistance for traders and buyers

According to the police, traders, businessmen and buyers sometimes face issues during the movement and sale of animals ahead of Bakri Eid.

Mumbai Police is expected to maintain strict monitoring and security arrangements across the city during the festival period to ensure smooth movement and law and order.
