Meanwhile, heavy rains on Tuesday lashed parts of the national capital and the rainfall combined with festive season traffic caused major disruption across Delhi, officials said, reported the PTI.
The commuters struggled with long traffic jams and congestion on key routes, they said.
Social media was flooded with reports of traffic snarls, particularly near Tikona Park close to Jamia Millia Islamia, and a 25-minute jam on the flyover near the Radisson Hotel on NH-48, affecting commuters travelling from Delhi to Gurugram.
Heavy traffic was also reported in northwest Delhi, with areas around Netaji Subhash Place in Pitampura and major stretches of the Outer Ring Road witnessing slow-moving vehicles, according to the PTI.
While the rainfall provided some relief from the recent spell of muggy weather, it compounded travel woes across the city. In south Delhi, busy roads such as Mahatma Gandhi Road, NH-48, and Captain Gaur Marg from Lajpat Nagar experienced severe congestion.
"Traffic was bumper-to-bumper on Mathura Road, Old Rohtak Road, parts of ITO, and the stretch from Mahatma Gandhi Road to GT Karnal Road," a commuter posted on social media.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature on Tuesday was expected to settle around 35°C, while the minimum was recorded at 28.7°C - 5.4 degrees above normal. Relative humidity stood at 74 per cent at 8:30 am.
The IMD forecast a generally cloudy sky with light rain or drizzle throughout the day.
