Type of flour
Fauziya Ansari, who is the dietitian at Apollo Spectra Hospital in Mumbai, says using whole wheat flour or millet flour instead of refined flour to make the jalebis is the easiest way to make jalebis healthy
Frying method
Baking or air-frying them instead of deep-frying, says Gulnaaz Shaikh, chief dietitian at KIMS Hospitals in Thane, can also help to reduce the consumption of oil-fried foods
Sweedal Trinidade, chief dietician at P. D. Hinduja Hospital & Medical Research Centre, Mahim, says you can even use ghee.
Change sweetener
Ansari says replacing the refined sugar with sugar syrup or with jaggery syrup in moderation is also one hack to enjoy jalebis. Soaking it in sugarfree sweetener, adds Trinidade, can also help, but she reminds that it won't taste the same as the original
Check oil and freshness
While the ingredients can be replaced at home, if you are eating jalebis outside, the dietitians say you can ask if fresh oil is being used, and skip stalls with reused or smoking oil
Only eat fresh jalebis
They also advise eating only jalebis that are freshly made, preferably in front of you, but not without consuming them in moderation
