A mother's love can push her to unimaginable lengths, and Netflix's upcoming action-thriller Gandhari explores that fierce emotional bond through the story of a woman determined to protect her child at any cost. Starring Taapsee Pannu in the lead, the film is set to premiere on Netflix on September 3.
Set in the fictional town of Joypurra, Gandhari follows Bani, a mother whose unwavering devotion to her daughter drives her through a dangerous and unpredictable journey. As she gets closer to finding her child, Bani is forced to confront a series of threats and challenges that test her resilience, courage and determination.
The film combines high-intensity action with an emotional narrative centred on motherhood. Taapsee takes on one of the most physically demanding roles of her career, with the story requiring her character to navigate a hostile world while refusing to give up on her mission.
Written and produced by Kanika Dhillon and directed by Devashish Makhija, Gandhari features an ensemble cast that includes Ishwak Singh, Chhaya Kadam, Swastika Mukherjee, Mita Vashisht and Jatin Sarna. Their characters add to the tension surrounding Bani's pursuit, with each encounter bringing fresh obstacles and uncertainty to her journey.
The film marks another collaboration between Netflix, Kanika Dhillon and Taapsee Pannu following the success of Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba. The creative partnership has previously explored stories driven by complex characters and emotional conflict, and Gandhari continues that association with a more action-oriented narrative.
Speaking about the film, Dhillon said that Gandhari is the story of a woman who refuses to allow her circumstances to define her. She described Bani's journey as "raw, relentless and deeply personal" and said that the character was what drew her to the project from the beginning.
Dhillon also highlighted her reunion with Pannu, describing their collaboration as a relationship built on creative trust and understanding. She praised Pannu's commitment to portraying Bani and said watching the actor bring the character to life with intensity was rewarding.
The writer-producer further credited director Devashish Makhija and the film's ensemble cast for contributing to the project. She also expressed excitement about collaborating with Netflix again and bringing the story to audiences on a larger scale.
With its combination of emotional drama, intense action and a mother's relentless search for her child, Gandhari promises a gripping addition to Netflix's slate. The film will premiere exclusively on the streaming platform on September 3.
