Mumbai Crime Branch arrests three with foreign-made pistols, 47 live cartridges

The Mumbai Crime Branch's Anti-Extortion Cell arrested three men and seized three foreign-made pistols along with 47 live cartridges during a late-night operation near St George Hospital in south Mumbai, officials said on Saturday.

Trap laid after tip-off

According to the police, the anti-extortion cell received specific information that some individuals from another state were coming to Mumbai to illegally sell firearms and live cartridges. Acting on the tip-off, a trap was laid on Friday around 10.45 pm near P D'Mello Road, close to the road leading towards the Eastern Freeway.

Accused caught red-handed

Police said the accused were caught red-handed while allegedly attempting to sell the illegal weapons. The seized cache included three foreign-made pistols with magazines and 47 live cartridges.

Two accused linked to old extortion cases

A case has been registered at the MRA Marg Police Station, and further investigation is underway by the crime branch. Officials added that two of the arrested accused have allegedly been wanted in extortion-related offences since 2022.

Senior officers supervised operation

The operation was conducted under the guidance of Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti and senior Crime Branch officials, including Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Anil Kumbhare.

West Bengal bomb attack case suspects held by Mumbai Police at Borivali station

The Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) of Mumbai Crime Branch detained two men from Borivali railway station for their alleged involvement in a bomb-hurling incident outside an Ashram in West Bengal's Murshidabad district.

Police said the accused had allegedly fled West Bengal and travelled to Mumbai to evade arrest.

According to Mumbai Crime Branch officials, the incident took place on May 14 under the jurisdiction of Berhampore Police Station in Murshidabad.

Police said tensions had reportedly escalated in the area following the declaration of West Bengal election results, after which the case was registered.

The detained accused have been identified as Roky Khan (24), a driver and resident of Kandi Hotel Para, and Sahadat Sarkar (35), a labourer from Gram Natun Pura.

After detaining the duo, Mumbai Crime Branch officials completed legal formalities and secured a two-day transit remand before initiating the process of handing them over to West Bengal Police.
