Several parts of Maharashtra continued to witness intense heat on Friday, with Brahmapuri in Vidarbha recording the highest maximum temperature in the state at 45.7 degrees Celsius, according to the latest weather bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Chandrapur followed closely with 44.8 degrees Celsius, while Wardha recorded 44.5 degrees Celsius and Washim touched 44 degrees Celsius. Nagpur registered 45 degrees Celsius, while Amravati recorded 43.6 degrees Celsius.

The Vidarbha region continued to remain the hottest part of Maharashtra, with most districts reporting temperatures above 42 degrees Celsius.

Akola recorded 43.2 degrees Celsius, Gondia reported 43 degrees Celsius and Yavatmal touched 42.6 degrees Celsius. Buldhana registered 41 degrees Celsius.

Weather officials said dry atmospheric conditions and strong daytime heating are contributing to the persistent heatwave-like conditions in the region.

Mumbai and Konkan experience humid weather

Mumbai recorded a maximum temperature of 36 degrees Celsius, while Santacruz reported 35.2 degrees Celsius. Dahanu touched 37 degrees Celsius and Alibag recorded 36.8 degrees Celsius.

Although temperatures in the Konkan region remained lower than Vidarbha, high humidity levels continued to make weather conditions uncomfortable for residents.

Hot spell to linger before Mumbai gets rain

Mumbai continued to experience hot and dry weather on Friday as the maximum temperature touched 36 degrees Celsius, the IMD said.

As per the latest IMD forecast, Mumbai is likely to witness mainly dry conditions on Saturday, May 30, and Sunday, May 31. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 36-39 degrees Celsius while the minimum will be around 24-28 degrees Celsius. However, by Saturday afternoon or evening, the weather is likely to take a turn and Mumbai is likely to witness partly cloudy skies.

Light rain or thundershowers are expected to begin from Sunday, May 31, and continue in the following days.

Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning, light to moderate rainfall, and gusty winds (30-40 kilometre per hour) at isolated places is very likely from Monday, June 1, onwards.

Pune and western Maharashtra remain warm

Pune recorded a maximum temperature of 36.7 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 24.5 degrees Celsius. Solapur reported 41.1 degrees Celsius, while Jalgaon recorded 42.5 degrees Celsius.
