Neighbours of Mira-Bhayandar resident Roshan Suvarna, the 30-year-old accused of fatally stabbing a 22-year-old on a Nalasopara-bound train on June 23, expressed shock over his alleged actions, describing him as a "pet lover" and a "nice man with a sweet family". The youth was remanded in police custody till June 30 by the Borivli court on Thursday
Nafees Alam, 59, a long-time neighbour of the Suvarnas, said, "A police team had come to the Suvarna residence around 11 am on Wednesday, and they stayed till evening, during which they searched the house. It's truly shocking what has happened. I saw the incident on the news, but didn't know that this boy, who often says hi to us, was the accused. The whole family is very nice and sweet. Roshan is an animal lover. He has a dog, and he would often play with my cat, which took a liking to him. I don't remember him showing any violent tendencies. It's unbelievable."

Another neighbour said the family had their former house in Andheri and had shifted to the area two years ago. "Roshan's parents are diabetic, and the family has been in a bad state since the incident," they said.

According to neighbours and police officers, Roshan has an elder brother. The siblings and their father were engaged in the family business of barcode making, based out of the cargo handling area of the Mumbai airport. Roshan would usually leave for his workplace in Andheri around 9 am and return home around 11 pm.
As per a police officer, after the stabbing, Roshan went to his residence in an auto. When Roshan told his family members about being in a fight, they didn't grasp the severity of the situation, thinking the youth must have been in a small altercation, seeing a bruise above his eye. However, when he left home early the next morning, and the police showed up, the family started to understand something serious had happened.
An officer from the Borivli GRP who is investigating the case said Roshan was extremely tense and unstable when he was detained on Wednesday. "When we told him that the victim had died, he became restless, realising the severity of his actions. He became a bit stable on Thursday, when we presented him in the court and secured his custody for further questioning. His parents are in deep shock. The public should learn from such incidents the importance of maintaining one's self-control at all times," he said.
