A major leak in a 1,650 mm diameter water pipeline on Dr. E. Moses Road has disrupted water supply in several parts of south and central Mumbai, with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) undertaking emergency repair work.

According to the BMC, the leak was detected late on Wednesday night after a crack developed in the main water pipeline located opposite Famous Studio on Dr. E. Moses Road. The civic body said its Hydraulic Engineer's Department has begun repair work on a priority basis.

Due to the scale of the repairs, water supply has been completely suspended in several localities across D, E and G South wards on Thursday, May 7. In some areas, residents will receive water at low pressure.

The BMC has appealed to residents in affected areas to use water cautiously until normal supply is restored.

Which areas will face complete water shutdown?

In D Ward, water supply has been fully suspended in Lamington Road, M. S. Ali Road, J. Boman Behram Marg, R. S. Nimkar Marg, Shuklaji Street, Grant Road (East), Balram Street, Dr. D. B. Marg, Pathe Bapurao Marg and the entire Mumbai Central area.

Supply has also been completely halted in M. P. Mills Compound, B. B. Nakashe Marg, Tardeo, Ambedkar Nagar Colony and parts of Keshavrao Khadye Road (South).

In E Ward, the affected areas include K. K. Marg, B. J. Marg, Sane Guruji Marg and Kasturba Hospital. Water supply has also been suspended in Maulana Azad Road, Delisle Road, Dr. Anand Rao Nair Road, Meghraj Sethi Marg, Maratha Mandir Road, Mohammad Shaheed Marg, Kamathipura lanes 1 to 14, Chandramani Buddha Vihar Road, the Agripada area and Dr. Anand Rao Nair Hospital.

In G South Ward, residents in J. R. Boricha Marg, Sane Guruji Marg and Dhobighat will also face a complete disruption in water supply.

Low-pressure supply expected in some localities

The BMC said some parts of D Ward will continue to receive water at reduced pressure instead of a complete shutdown.

These areas include Thakurdwar, M. K. Road, R. R. Road, J. S. S. Road and Khadilkar Road. Low-pressure supply is also expected in Girgaon Road, Hughes Road, Babulnath Road and Chowpatty Road.

Civic officials said restoration of normal water supply will depend on the progress of the repair work.
