Salman Khan may be in Ladakh currently for Battle of Galwan’s shoot, but he is never too far away to extend a helping hand. On the Weekend Ka Vaar episode of Bigg Boss 19, the host indicated that he had joined the relief efforts as Punjab reeled in the aftermath of the floods. mid-day has now learnt that the superstar, distressed by the unfolding tragedy, mobilised the team of his not-for-profit organisation Being Human, which began by sending 25 rescue boats to the hardest-hit areas of Ajnala, Firozpur, Gurdaspur, and their nearby villages.

The foundation’s next step is to distribute food. To that end, the superstar has instructed his team to keep 25,000 ration packets ready, each containing two kinds of dal, rice, wheat, mixed masala, sugar, and tea leaves.

A source says, “Salman started monitoring the situation right when the floods began, and a week before his outburst on Bigg Boss 19, he had charted out his course of action. Coordinating with a politician and his friend, Rahool N Kanal, the actor has kept 25,000 ration packets ready for affected areas like Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, Firozpur, Pathankot, Fazilka, and Hoshiarpur. As soon as the local authorities give the go-ahead, these packets will reach the cities and towns.”

With the disaster response teams and many not-for-profit organisations handling the immediate care of those affected, Khan is focusing on the long-term rehabilitation plans of the state. The superstar wants to ensure proper medical care is available across towns and villages. The source elaborates, “He has arranged for five lakh tablets of Doxycycline and Azithromycin that are essentially antibiotics, and chlorine tablets to disinfect water, as a rise in infections and diseases can be expected in the floods’ aftermath. The Being Human team has also roped in private doctors, who will go to the villages as soon as the water recedes. They plan to also put up gazebos or tents in the affected villages, which can serve as a centre from where medical or other forms of aid can be deployed. Salman has also mobilised his local fan clubs in Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Punjab to identify families that have been affected and pass on the information to his team. Even though the actor is shooting, he is constantly in touch with his team, monitoring the progress of their relief efforts.”
