The horrifying trespassing instances involving BTS member Jungkook have taken a new turn. South Korean officials have dropped charges against a Chinese woman accused of attempting to break into Jungkook's home earlier this year, but a Korean lady involved in a separate incident will face trespassing and stalking charges. The different outcomes have sparked debates in South Korea regarding celebrity privacy and obsessive fanboy culture.
According to the Korea Times, the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office said on October 22 that it has suspended the indictment of a Chinese woman in her thirties. She was previously charged with attempted home invasion for reportedly visiting Jungkook's home on June 11, the day the singer was released from military service. The woman reportedly repeatedly touched the keypad door lock at the entrance, presumably in an attempt to enter.
Police responded to a report and detained her on the scene. During the inquiry, the woman revealed that she had travelled from China to Korea, particularly to see Jungkook following his military discharge. Prosecutors ultimately dismissed the charges on September 10, noting that her acts did not constitute a full trespassing attempt and that she constituted a low risk of reoffending after returning to her home country. The suspended indictment admits her conduct but avoids a trial, citing her regret and low criminal risk.
In contrast, a separate case involving a Korean woman in her forties has led to prosecution. The woman allegedly entered Jungkook's apartment building parking lot in Seoul's Yongsan Ward at 11:20 p.m. on August 30th. Police responded swiftly to the site after receiving a trespassing allegation and apprehended her.
On October 14, the Seoul Yongsan Police Station reported her case to prosecutors, citing anti-stalking breaches and criminal trespassing.
Talking about the incident, Jungkook had done a live where he narrated his experience, "I saw the whole thing on the surveillance camera. She opened the door in the underground parking lot, and the police were right there in front of her. I was watching everything."
"She said we were friends," Jungkook continued. "I mean, ARMY are like family and friends, sure, but that was just sad. I appreciate the support, but come on - don't do that."
"If you show up, I'll lock you in," he continued. "I've got the evidence, and you'll be taken away. Everything is recorded. If you step into the parking lot of my home, you won't be able to leave unless I open the door for you. There are cameras everywhere. If you don't want to be dragged to the police station, do not enter."
