Salman Khan firing case: Lookout circular issued against Anmol Bishnoi

A lookout circular (LOC) was issued on Friday against Anmol Bishnoi in connection with the Salman Khan firing case, an official said, reported the PTI. Anmol Bishnoi is the younger brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Anmol Bishnoi had earlier in a social media post claimed the responsibility for the firing outside Bollywood superstar Salman Khan's residence in Bandra west, the official said. Two men had shot multiple rounds at Salman Khan's home on April 14, the police had earlier said. According to the PTI, the official said that the police is likely to take custody of Lawrence Bishnoi, who is currently lodged in a jail in Sabarmati in Gujarat, and was also contemplating invoking the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) in the case. Anmol Bishnoi had claimed responsibility for the firing and a probe too showed his involvement, following which the LOC was issued by Mumbai police, the official added, as per the PTI. "Anmol and Lawrence Bishnoi have been named as wanted accused in the case. Anmol Bishnoi stays in Canada and travels to the USA. However, the IP address of the Facebook post, through which he claimed responsibility of the firing, was traced to Portugal," the official said, reported the PTI. The alleged shooters Vicky Gupta (24) and Sagar Pal (21), both residents of Bihar, have been arrested along with Sonu Kumar Subhash Chander Bishnoi (37) and Anuj Thapan (32), who had provided them two country-made pistols and cartridges on March 15, as per police. As per police, Sonu Bishnoi and Thapan hail from Fazilka, close to Lawrence Bishnoi's native place in Punjab. "Both were also accused along with Lawrence and Anmol Bishoi in a firing case registered in Gangapur in Punjab," he said. Meanwhile, two men arrested from Punjab in connection with Salman Khan firing case were on Friday produced before a Mumbai court that remanded them to police custody till April 30, the PTI reported. The crime branch had on Thursday arrested the duo, who had allegedly provided weapons and cartridges to the shooters, from Punjab. The police informed the court that the accused were key persons in the crime and were arrested based on technical evidence. They need to be interrogated to find out who supplied them with weapons and asked them to give the same to the two shooters arrested earlier, police said, according to the PTI. Mumbai Police have alleged that Chander and Thapan had come to Panvel on March 15 to hand over two country-made pistols and 38 live rounds to the shooters Sagar Pal and Vicky Gupta. The duo were the shooters arrested by the Mumbai Crime Branch for shooting outside Salman Khan's residence in Bandra west. The court had on Thursday remanded Pal (21) and Gupta (24) to police custody till April 29. (with PTI inputs)

Navi Mumbai: Unidentified woman's body discovered wrapped in blanket in Uran

An unidentified woman's body was discovered wrapped in a blanket and discarded in a dried-up stream in Uran taluka of Maharashtra's Raigad district, officials said on Friday. According to an official from the Uran police station, the discovery was made on Thursday morning in Talekhar, PTI reported. According to the official, a passerby spotted the unidentified woman's body on the Chirner-Kharpada route at 6 am. The body was wrapped in a blanket, while the legs were placed in a plastic bag, the report stated. Initial reports indicate that the deceased woman was around 35 years old, and foul play is suspected in her death, the PTI report added. "A passerby found the body on the Chirner-Kharpada road around 6 am. It was found wrapped in a blanket with the legs put in a plastic bag. The deceased could be around 35 years old and she might have been killed," the official said. Following its discovery, the body was taken to a government hospital for post-mortem examination. Authorities then filed a case against unidentified criminals under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code, such as 302 (murder) and 201 (causing the disappearance of evidence of wrongdoing), the PTI report added. Investigations are underway to identify the victim and locate those guilty of the murder.  In another incident, a guy being held in an assault case escaped from police custody while being escorted for a medical check-up in Navi Mumbai, according to a police statement issued on Friday. The escapee, Ajay Datta Katkari, 25, reportedly bolted while being transported to the Indira Gandhi Rural Hospital in Uran. Katkari was detained for allegedly using hazardous weapons to injure another person, another PTI report stated. Speaking about the escape, a police station in Uran spokeswoman revealed that Katkari shoved a policeman who was riding with him when they were being taken to the hospital, a PTI report stated. According to the report, law enforcement organisations are stepping up their search efforts in an attempt to locate and capture the runaway, Katkari, to guarantee his prompt return to police custody.

Undertrial flees while being taken for medical check-up in Navi Mumbai

An undertrial man reportedly fled from the police custody while being taken for medical check-up in Maharashtra's Navi Mumbai, a police official said on Friday, reported the PTI. The man was held in an assault case escaped from police custody while he was being taken for a medical check-up, the official said. According to the PTI, the Uran police station official identified the escapee as Ajay Datta Katkari (25) and said efforts were on to nab him. "He was arrested for allegedly hurting a person with dangerous weapons. On Thursday, while being taken to Indira Gandhi Rural Hospital in Uran, he escaped after pushing a policeman escorting him," he said, the news agency reported on Friday. Thief out on bail, gets back in slammer after two days Meanwhile, in an another incident, A 21-year-old habitual offender identified as Narayan Raju Parmar, involved in over half-a-dozen thefts, snatchings, and cheating cases, was arrested by the Borivali police in October last year. With his arrest, the cops had solved four cases including one of snatching, two thefts and one cheating case. He has been in jail since November 2023 and was released on bail on Sunday morning. Soon after being released from jail in the morning, he allegedly committed a theft in the evening and the next day. The incident has led him back in jail again.  According to police sources, within seven hours of his release, he committed another theft, snatching a gold mangalsutra from the neck of a 63-year-old woman near Gora Gandhi Hotel on Sunday evening. The following day, around 10 pm, he again stole a purse containing gold ornaments from a 50-year-old woman in an auto-rickshaw near Kalpana Chaval Chowk. In both cases, the stolen gold valuables were worth about Rs 1.25 lakh. Under the guidance of DCP Anand Bhoite and Senior Inspector Ninad Sawant, Borivali PSIs Rajesh Kadam and Indrjeet Patil, along with their detection team began their investigation. With the help of CCTV footage, Parmar was identified and arrested on April 23, said an officer. Parmar has a previous criminal record and was arrested by the Borivali cops with an 18-year-old accused in October 2023. (with PTI inputs)

Maharashtra: Four get life imprisonment for murder of cable operators in Thane

A court in Maharashtra's Thane district has sentenced four persons, including two women, to life imprisonment for the murder of a local cable operator over money more than a decade ago. In his order, Additional Sessions Judge (Kalyan) RG Waghmare also fined three of the four convicts Rs 25,000 each and one Rs 30,000. A copy of the operative order dated April 23 was made available on Thursday. During the trial, Additional Public Prosecutor Sanjay Gosavi told the court that a cable operator named Raja, alias Bhagwan Ochani, had lent Rs 10 lakh to two women and was demanding his money back. In 2013, the two women hired two men and got Ochani killed after calling him to their place under the pretext of discussing the money matter. They later demanded Rs 1 crore from Ochani's family, claiming he was in their custody. The court noted that the prosecution had proved the charges against the four beyond reasonable doubt and held them guilty under Indian Penal Code sections 302 (murder) and 120B (criminal conspiracy). It sentenced all four to life. The convicts were identified as Akash Harish Mendon (33), Babita Jaggusing Labhana (48), Priya Vijaykumar Ailani (52) and Rajesh Rajendran Tharur (38). Salman Khan firing case: Two men nabbed from Punjab sent to police custody

Two men arrested from Punjab in connection with Salman Khan firing case were on Friday produced before a Mumbai court that remanded them to police custody till April 30, the PTI reported. Subhash Chander (37) and Anuj Thapan (32) were produced before a magistrate's court in Mumbai. The crime branch had on Thursday arrested the duo, who had allegedly provided weapons and cartridges to the shooters, from Punjab. The police informed the court that the accused were key persons in the crime and were arrested based on technical evidence. They need to be interrogated to find out who supplied them with weapons and asked them to give the same to the two shooters arrested earlier, police said, according to the PTI. Mumbai Police have alleged that Chander and Thapan had come to Panvel on March 15 to hand over two country-made pistols and 38 live rounds to the shooters Sagar Pal and Vicky Gupta. The duo were the shooters arrested by the Mumbai Crime Branch for shooting outside Salman Khan's residence in Bandra west. Apart from these four accused, the Mumbai Police have declared jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and his younger brother Anmol Bishnoi as wanted accused in the Salman Khan firing case. Appearing for the accused, advocate Ajay Dubey submitted that Chander and Thapan had not provided weapons to the other accused or visited Panvel, and they had no connection to the Bishnoi gang, according to the PTI. All charges against them are baseless, and they were falsely implicated in the case, he said, as per the PTI. Gupta and Pal allegedly fired outside 58-year-old Khan's house at the Galaxy Apartment in Bandra in the early hours of April 14 before fleeing the spot on a motorbike. They were apprehended from Mata No Madh village in Gujarat's Kutch district on April 16. The Mumbai Crime Branch team led by encounter specialist Daya Nayak later recovered two pistols, magazines and bullets from the Tapi river in Gujarat during a search operation to recover weapons allegedly used in the firing. Malad septic tank deaths: Plumbing supervisor held by police for negligence

The Dindoshi Police in Mumbai arrested a 51-year-old plumbing supervisor of Raheja Tower for alleged death of two individuals due to negligence, the police said on Thursday. The deceased were identified as Raghu Solanki and Javed Shaikh, 35, another individual, identified as Akib Shaikh,19, was admitted in the hospital after being injured in the incident. His condition was critical, the officials said. According to the officials, the incident occurred on Wednesday evening, involving drowning of Solanki, Shaikh, Akib while they were cleaning a drain sewer on the premises of Raheja Tower in Malad East area of Mumbai. They were later shifted to the Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Trauma Care Hospital in Jogeshwari East. Solanki and Shaikh were declared dead before the admission at the hospital while Akib was unconscious and his condition was critical, he is undergoing treatment, the officials said.  "We have registered a case under sections 304 (a), 336, and 338 of the IPC and booked the supervisor identified as Manohar Nadar. He was arrested and he was produced before the court on Thursday," said Senior Inspector Irfan Shaikh of Dindoshi Police Station.

Two members of Lawrence Bishnoi gang held for supplying guns to shooters

The Mumbai Crime Branch arrested two members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang who had allegedly supplied guns to the shooters involved in Salman Khan firing case, the official sources said on Thursday. The suspects were identified as Sonu Subhash Chander (37), a farmer, and Anuj Thapan (31), a truck helper, both residents of Punjab, they said. According to police officials, both Chander and Thapan delivered the pistols to the shooters on March 15 in Panvel area of Navi Mumbai in Maharashtra. Thapan, one of the accused, has been working with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang for many years and has a history of criminal records related to extortion and supplying guns. Both the suspects who supplied the guns waited at Panvel for 3 hours and discussed the entire plan with the shooters involved in the Salman Khan firing case, official sources said. The Mumbai Crime Branch Unit 9 is currently in Punjab and has arrested both accused, bringing them to Mumbai via flight, sources added.

Maharashtra: Man wanted for 2007 jewellery shop dacoity held in Bhiwandi

A history-sheeter on the run for 17 years was nabbed in Bhiwandi area of Thane district in Maharashtra, a police official said on Thursday, reported the PTI. According to the PTI, the suspect was identified as Annaji Jadhav (57). He was held in Ambadi village on Wednesday, Assistant Inspector DT Sonke of Ganeshpuri police station said, the news agency reported on Thursday. "In 2007, he was part of an armed robbery in a jewellery shop. Jewellery worth Rs 19 lakh was looted at the time. A total of 17 persons were arrested for the crime and items worth Rs 14 lakh were recovered," he said, as per the PTI. "Jadhav's is the 18th arrest in the case. He was held from his home on a tip off. Two persons are still on the run," the official added. The shooters were allegedly following orders from the Bishnoi gang operators. The Mumbai Crime branch officers also found that the shooters did not have any enmity with actor Salman Khan but fired on the instructions of someone else, sources added. Both shooters were also in contact with individuals from Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana, and the police are investigating it further to determine who is behind the incident. The sources said that the accused were using two mobile phones, and the police have recovered only one mobile phone so far. Couple, their son booked for duping developer over sale of land in Thane

The Thane Police in Maharashtra have booked three people including a couple and their son for allegedly cheating a builder of nearly Rs 42 lakh over the sale of land, an official said on Thursday, reported the PTI. According to the PTI, in his complaint, the 27-year-old builder, who lives in the Bhiwandi area, said the accused and he had signed an agreement a few months ago towards the sale of more than 15 acres of land in Thane district. The builder alleged that he and his family paid Rs 42 lakh to the accused in connection with the deal but the accused neither got the land transferred nor refunded the money. While the accused sold the land to others, they abused and threatened to harm the builder whenever he sought a refund, the official said citing the complaint. Acting on a complaint by the builder, the Shanti Nagar police in Bhiwandi registered a case against the couple and their son on Tuesday, the official added. Four of family booked for assault in Thane Meanwhile, in an another incident, the police in Maharashtra's Thane city have registered a case against four members of a family after a 71-year-old housewife accused them of assault and harassment, an official said on Thursday, as per the PTI. The case was registered on Tuesday following a court order, as per the FIR. The complainant and the accused live in the same housing society in the city's Charai area. In her complaint to the Naupada police station, the senior citizen said she was targeted over her religious and food habits, the news agency reported on Thursday. She accused four members of a family of assaulting her and harassing her by disconnecting her water and power supplies. The accused also allegedly asked the complainant's family to move to England, the official said citing the complaint. The police have booked the accused under Indian Penal Code sections 295-A (outraging religious feelings), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 352 (assault or criminal force), 427 (mischief causing damage), 447 (criminal trespass), and 506(2) (criminal intimidation), he said, the PTI reported. Maharashtra: 60-year-old man kills son, tries to pass it off as accident; held

The Thane Police in Maharashtra arrested a 60-year-old man for allegedly killing his son and later attempted to pass it off as an accident, an official said, reported the PTI. The police said that the suspect allegedly killed his son in Thane district after he beat up his parents, as per the PTI. The incident took place on Wednesday morning at Garibacha Pada in Dombivili township, he said. The deceased, a 30-year-old man, who was a habitual drinker, allegedly beat up his parents in an inebriated state, the official from Vishnu Nagar police station said on Wednesday, according to the PTI. His father then allegedly beat him up and strangled him, the official said. The accused told the police that his son accidentally fell at home, got injured and died, he said, the PTI reported on Thursday. The police initially registered an accidental death report (ADR). However, the autopsy report indicated that the man was beaten and strangulated to death, the official said, the news agency reported. The police arrested the deceased's father on Wednesday night and registered a case against him under Indian Penal Code section 302 (murder), he said. Meanwhile, in an another incident, two children missing for hours were found dead inside a parked car at Antop Hill in central Mumbai, with the police suspecting that the kids lost their lives due to suffocation, an official said on Thursday, according to the PTI. The car was locked from inside and it appears that the children could not unlock it, the official said. Muskan Shaikh (5) and Sajid Shaikh (7) were playing outside their homes, where the car was parked, on Wednesday afternoon. When the children did not return home till evening, their parents started a search for them. Subsequently, they also lodged a missing complaint at the Antop Hill police station, the official said. A few hours later, an onlooker found the children lying unconscious inside the car. The vehicle doors were opened and the kids were rushed to the hospital but doctors declared them dead, the official said. Prima facie, it seems the kids were suffocated to death as they were locked inside the car, the official said. Police are examining footage of CCTV cameras installed in the area and probing all possible angles, he said, adding that an accidental death case has been registered for now. (with PTI inputs)
