RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Friday emphasised the need to promote Sanskrit as a medium of communication, stating that the language is the root of all Indian languages, reported news agency PTI.

Speaking at the inauguration of a new building at Kavi Kulguru Kalidas Sanskrit University, Bhagwat pointed out the distinction between understanding Sanskrit and being able to converse in it, reported PTI.

He noted that while the university will receive government support, public participation is equally essential.

"I have learnt the language but am not able to speak it fluently. Sanskrit needs to reach every household, and communication in the language is needed," the RSS chief said, reported PTI.

Bhagwat added that there is a broad consensus on the goal of becoming atmanirbhar (self-reliant), which requires developing intellect and knowledge.

He described language as an expression of emotion (bhav) and identity.

"Swatwa is not materialistic, but a reflection of individuality, and it is conveyed through language. Sanskrit is the origin of all Indian languages," he said, reported PTI.

He further remarked that understanding Sanskrit equates to understanding the country.

Bhagwat inaugurated the Abhinav Bharti International Academic building at the university.

Meanwhile, a former police official who was part of the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) that probed the 2008 Malegaon blast case has claimed that he had been asked to apprehend RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, reported PTI.

The objective behind the order was to establish that there was "saffron terror", retired inspector Mehiboob Mujawar alleged on Thursday, reacting to the trial court's verdict acquitting all seven accused, including former BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur, reported PTI.

The court's ruling undid the "fake things" done by the ATS, he said, speaking at Solapur, reported PTI.

Notably, while the ATS initially probed the case, it was later taken over by the National Investigation Agency.

"The verdict exposed the fake investigation done by a fake officer," Mujawar further said, naming a senior official, reported PTI.

He was part of the ATS team that probed the blast at Malegaon on September 29, 2008, in which six people were killed and 101 others were injured, Mujawar said, claiming that he was asked to "go and catch" Mohan Bhagwat.
