Ali Fazal on fatherhood: 'I spent the first few months very anxious'

Next month, Ali Fazal will bring romance on screen with Metro... In Dino. But in real life, love is an everyday affair for the actor, who has been discovering new meanings to the emotion after welcoming daughter Zuneyra Ida Fazal. His love story with actor and his wife Richa Chadha too has taken a new turn as they navigate parenthood together. “You’ll find me trying to flirt back with my wife, find new ways to get out. Once our daughter sleeps, we’re like, ‘Let’s grab a bite’. Or some mornings, we sit, have our coffees, and talk,” he smiles. Fazal and Chadha became proud parents to Zuneyra last July. Since then, it has been a whirlwind of change — between burping duties and nappy changes, between feeling on top of the world and feeling exhausted, the actor says he has become “a different person”. “The definition of love has become different since parenthood,” he reflects, adding that he was an anxious father in the first few months since his daughter’s birth. “I probably read all the literature. I spent the first few months very anxious. Now it’s getting a little better.”  But the new father’s worries haven’t ended. Often, he finds himself thinking of the world that his child is growing up in. “What’s the world we have in store for her? That scares me. The cinema that we create today, people will watch it 50 years later and abuse us. They will say, ‘You were alive in this era when this was happening. Did you record that? You didn’t.’ These thoughts bother us [Chadha and him].” As an actor and a producer, Fazal not only tries to contribute to meaningful cinema, but also is a strong public voice for social dissent. His forthrightness hasn’t come without a cost. “It’s difficult to be an opinionated artiste in the industry. I’ve probably lost work because of that at times, but I don’t regret it. Sometimes, speaking out is not the only answer.” That’s where, he believes, the power of cinema lies. “We’ll make all kinds of cinema, but we have to be smart about it. We can’t wait for the right time to come. The best of things come out in tragic times. We have to crack how we can smartly make [what we want to say].”

A still from the animated short film, Loop Line

Renuka Shahane: One has to be used to dealing with backlash as a public figure

For her latest directorial venture, Loop Line, Renuka Shahane found her hero in a character that was until recently ignored by the movies — the homemaker. The Marathi animated short film explores how homemakers are burdened by mundane chores and labour, and subjected to emotional neglect. “The film comes from my observation of the casual misogyny and disregard to the feelings of housewives that is normalised in patriarchal families,” says the director. Renuka Shahane made her directorial debut with Rita (2009). In 2021, she helmed the Kajol-starrer Tribhanga Shahane’s choice of using hand-drawn animation to tell the story is unusual. The reason is simple, she says. “In India, animation is largely seen as a medium for children’s stories or mythological stories. I wanted to break that perception.” Thematically, Loop Line walks the same path as Sanya Malhotra’s Mrs, which drew praise and backlash for spotlighting the suffering of women in domestic roles. But Shahane — who has a three-decade acting career behind her — is unfazed by the criticism. “If such stories make people uncomfortable, it means they’re doing what they’re supposed to. One has to be used to dealing with backlash as a public figure. One has to arrive at an appreciation of constructive criticism.”

Paresh Rawal and Akshay Kumar

Akshay Kumar is hopeful about Hera Pheri 3 amid Paresh Rawal's exit

Bollywood actor Paresh Rawal shocked Bollywood and its fans after he announced his decision to quit Priyadarshan’s Hera Pheri 3. As much as his decision shocked fans, it was also heartbreaking news for his co-stars Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty. His exit was followed by a string of controversies. The matter even took a legal turn when Akshay Kumar's company, Cape Of Good Cinema, reportedly sued Rawal for Rs 25 crore. And now, Akshay Kumar has broken his silence on the matter. Akshay Kumar breaks silence During a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Akshay was asked if there are any new and recent developments with regards to Hera Pheri 3. Akshay replied, “Whatever is happening is happening in front of you. Keeping my fingers crossed. I hope everything goes well.” He went on to reassure fans by saying, “Everything will go well only. I know, for sure.” His voice says it all he's genuinely looking so sad regarding whatever things happened with #HeraPheri3 recently but still he's hopeful that everything will go well in the end. pic.twitter.com/Sx68jVJjG0 — Shivam (@KhiladiAKFan) June 17, 2025 Earlier, Paresh had told mid-day, "I know it came as a shock to many. We three make a great combination with Priyadarshanji directing us, but the fact is that I opted out because today I don’t feel like a part of it. It is final for the time being. I always say never say never for anything. One cannot predict what happens in the future." He added, "I love Priyadarshan and have great respect and faith in him as a director. We have done wonderful movies together in the past and will continue to do so. There were no creative differences, nor is there a possibility of having any with him. No amount of money compares to the love and respect of my audience. Right now, I just felt that it is a role I don’t want to do, that’s all." Akshay Kumar about making four films in a year In the same interview, Akshay Kumar, also addressed the criticism against him for doing four films in a year. He stated that he doesn't see any reason why he shouldn't continue, adding that he genuinely enjoys playing diverse characters.           View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by Akshay Kumar (@akshaykumar) Akshay stated, "I like it. I enjoy playing different characters—and why not? Some people complain about me doing four films a year, but I don’t see the reason why I shouldn’t. If I'm getting work, I’m doing it. Some movies work, and some don’t. A person has to work and go to the office every day; he can’t just sit at home and say, 'Ab main thoda ruk jaata hoon.' I want to work. Because I do 4 films, I want to play different characters, and it gives me a lot of happiness." "I want to get into and try and play those characters, to get to work with so many directors and tell stories that haven't been told. I’m very happy I got to tell the story of C. Sankaran Nair. Before that, there were Sky Force, Sarfira, and many more films. I always try to get as close as possible," he added.

Sikandar leaked

Rs 91 crore damage to Salman Khan's Sikandar due to online leak

According to the latest reports, a new audit has allegedly found that pirated versions of Salman Khan's film Sikandar were being circulated soon after its release in March. The pirated versions were reportedly being circulated on encrypted messaging platforms and unauthorised streaming sites. As a result of the leaks, the production house has faced massive losses, mounting up to a little less than Rs 100 crore. Sources claim, “This wasn’t a minor leak. The scale of circulation was unprecedented, and it had a measurable impact on the box office,” the source added. Sikandar faced Rs 91 crore loss As per reliable sources who spoke to Bollywood Hungama, the production house, Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. (NGEPL), headed by Sajid Nadiadwala,  has initiated internal discussions about claiming its digital piracy insurance cover after a shocking figure of loss was brought to light in the audit. The source said, “An audit was commissioned to assess the extent of the leak and the resulting impact on revenue. Ernst & Young (EnY) submitted a comprehensive report that pegged the loss at approximately Rs. 91 crore." Industry insiders say that the Rs. 91 crore figure was found using a combination of comparative modelling and market benchmarking. The audit seemingly analysed pre-release box office projections, theatre-wise occupancy trends, as well as region-wise earnings dips following the leak. They also used digital footprint tracing tools to track the volume of illegal downloads and streams across platforms. These figures, when converted into estimated box office revenue loss with the help of established conversion ratios led to the team finalising the figure. The source further shared, “Such audits often include a blend of data from ticketing platforms, distributor reports, and forensic tracing of piracy dissemination. The Rs. 91 crore figure wasn’t arbitrary - it is rooted in a loss of potential theatrical and digital revenue." This BGM🥵🥵#sikandaronnetflix#Sikandar... pic.twitter.com/oHcYW5jFZg — UNITED TFI 08 (@Santhosh341011) June 15, 2025 Notably, the pirated versions are believed to have been leaked post-censorship, since they included deleted and raw scenes, which not present in the final theatrical cut. A source revealed, “The background score in many places was raw. There were several scenes that did not exist in the theatrical version - like one where medical students meet Sikandar in Dharavi, a longer flashback of Kamaruddin collapsing due to lung disease, and a sequence involving Sikandar learning about Rashmika’s character’s aspirations to become a lawyer.” “There was also a pre-interval scene where Sikandar’s team informs him about multiple issues - Kamaruddin’s deteriorating health, Vaidehi (Kajal Aggarwal) leaving her home, and Nisha (Anjini Dhawan) being unwell - giving him stronger reason to stay in Mumbai. There’s even a deleted suicide attempt by Vaidehi and a cab sequence involving vadams that was omitted from the final cut,” they added.  The source also noted, “It’s not Iulia Vantur singing Lag Ja Gale - the original 1964 version is used. Also, the pirated version did not include Salman Khan singing Ajeeb Dastaan, which was later added to the final cut. These variations suggest that the leak likely happened post-CBFC clearance, indicating an insider job.” Sikandar enjoyed an impressive opening weekend, followed by a sharp decline in its weekday collections. It ultimately ended its theatrical run at Rs. 103.45 crores. Nadiadwala Grandsons to file Bollywood's biggest piracy insurance claim? On the other hand, another source close to the production house claimed, “No formal claim has been filed yet. The discussions are ongoing, but it's premature to say that NGEPL has officially moved to claim Rs. 91 crores. At this stage, these are internal assessments, not legal filings.” Collection of some movies 60-70 Cr are called hit but Sikandar 216Cr is flop. This is injustice ✍️. Sikandar budget - 180Cr.Sikandar digital rights 160Cr. Sikandar collection-216 Cr . Total benefit = 186 Cr @BeingSalmanKhan pic.twitter.com/LCWphKsWVq — NS (@Bollywood2025) April 24, 2025 Interestingly, if NGEPL decides to proceed with the claim, this could turn put to be one of the biggest piracy-related insurance claims in Indian film history. The incident also highlights the increasing role of risk management tools such as cyber insurance in the business of moviemaking. A digital distribution expert noted, “Studios are finally treating piracy as a financial risk, not just a legal or ethical concern." Sajid Nadiadwala and NGEPL are yet to issue an official statement regarding the insurance claim or the piracy audit.

Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda in Tum Ho Toh; Saiyaara

Mohit Suri and Vishal Mishra team up for Saiyaara’s new love track Tum Ho Toh

Yash Raj Films and Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara is turning out to be the best music album to have come out of Bollywood in a while. After the chartbuster Saiyaara title track, the second song Barbaad, sung by Jubin Nautiyal, has also become a rage on the internet. The makers have dropped the third song of the film today, a peppy love track called Tum Ho Toh, sung by the versatile Vishal Mishra. 'Waited to collaborate with Vishal for 12 years' Mohit Suri reveals that he has known Vishal for 12 years now and was overwhelmed to learn that the singer decided to pursue music as a career after listening to Mohit’s soulful love songs during his college days. Mohit, who completes 20 years in the Hindi film industry during which he has delivered scores of musical megahits that the country has fallen in love with, says, “Vishal & I had always planned to collaborate on something special ever since he came to meet me over 12 years back. We just waited for the right moment and I’m glad it was for Saiyaara. I was humbled to hear him say that it was my music that made him want to pursue music as a career. He fell in love with my brand of music when he was going through a heart-break during his college days".  He adds, “When you hear your work have an impact like this on someone, it is an overwhelming feeling. I have always felt that music has the ability to touch people’s hearts and is an extremely pure medium. So, in my 20 years of directing and creating music, I do feel grateful that I have created memories for people through my songs. Vishal Mishra is one of the most talented artistes I have ever met in my career and it is my privilege to have him in the music album of Saiyaara. I still have the scratches that Vishal had given me since he kept meeting me for 12 years now and they are just pure gold!” 'Vishal's best romantic song yet' Mohit is thrilled to see Vishal’s meteoric success due to his sheer talent. He also shared that watching Vishal grow as an artist brings him immense joy, especially with the magic he has created through his music in Tum Ho Toh. He says, “To know him, to collaborate with him and to see him grow as an artist, just gives me a lot of joy. He has created magic in my opinion with Tum Ho Toh and I can’t wait to unleash his genius with the third song drop from Saiyaara. For those who love his music, they will be thrilled to probably have his best romantic song yet and for those who are growing fond of Vishal’s music, they will fall in love with him with Tum Ho Toh."   More about Saiyaara Ever since the teaser release, Saiyaara that brings together YRF and Mohit, both known for creating timeless love stories, has garnered unanimous praise for making an intense love story with debutants who share infectious chemistry and brilliant acting skills. The title of Saiyaara has also piqued interest of audience. It means a wandering celestial body, but in poetry it's often used to describe something (or someone) dazzling, ethereal, or otherworldly — a wandering star - always shining, always guiding, but always out of reach. The film introduces Ahaan Panday as a hero to the Hindi film industry and also stars Aneet Padda (who stole hearts with her brilliant performance in the much-acclaimed series Big Girls Don’t Cry) as the female lead. Saiyaara is produced by the company’s CEO Akshaye Widhani and it is set to release on July 18, 2025 in theatres worldwide. YRF, in its 50 year history, is known for giving India some of the cult romantic films of all time primarily directed by Yash Chopra and Aditya Chopra. Mohit Suri, who is currently in his 20th year in cinema, has also directed some of the most favourite romantic films like Aashiqui 2, Malang, Ek Villain, etc.

Aditya Roy Kapur says he’s learning to stop overthinking performances

Actor Aditya Roy Kapur has said that he is highly self-critical and rarely satisfied with his performances. However, over time he's learned to trust the director's vision and let go of overthinking.  Asked how he judges his own performance and if he is self-critical or more intuitive about what feels right, Aditya told IANS: “Yeah, always hyper self-critical. Never happy, never really satisfied. I always come away thinking I could have done more. Earlier in my career, I’d go home and keep thinking about it for hours. But over the years, I’ve learned to let it go.” The actor said he has realised it’s something he is always going to feel, so there’s no point dwelling on it.  “It’s over, the day is done, you did your best. That mindset is important—because constantly marinating in those thoughts gets you nowhere. But yeah, I’m super critical in that sense. I don’t look at the monitor unless I feel I really need to for a specific thing.” The actor added: “I just go with what feels right—what the director and I feel is happening at the moment. I don’t find much value in watching myself on the monitor. It doesn’t work for me unless it’s a physical shot, where I need to see how something is translating on camera.” He tags himself as self-critical. “But yes, always self-critical. And I think that’s important. I’m slowly learning to pat myself on the back every now and then and trust when the director is genuinely happy. Like, okay—that must have been good. You have to draw the line somewhere and stop doubting it beyond a point. Because if the director is really happy... yeah, that’s where trust comes in.” It’s the trust built between an actor and the director, he said.  “Hopefully, you’ve spent enough time together before the film—talking about things, or even talking around things, more than directly about them. So you know you’re both aiming for the same target. That’s so important. If you and the director have two different films in your heads, two different goals, then that can’t work. You need to be on the same page. Yeah, that’s crucial.” Aditya’s gearing up for the release of “Metro…In Dino”, which delves into the complex and modern relationships, the upcoming film promises an exploration of love, heartbreak, and human connection. The film stars Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Ali Fazal, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkona Sen Sharma, Anupam Kher and Neena Gupta. Gulshan Kumar and T-Series presents, in association with Anurag Basu Productions Pvt. Ltd., ‘Metro…In Dino. Directed by Anurag Basu, with music composed by Pritam, and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Anurag Basu, and Taani Basu, the film will be in cinemas on July 4.
